Literacy learning is a large component of the grade 1 curriculum. Students learn through a variety of different methods, this is referred to as a balanced literacy programme.
Students participate in both whole language and phonics approaches, they read together as a class and in small groups according to their level (more information about this coming soon). Below is a link to a video of last year (the same lesson).
