As we rapidly approach the last month of school there is both a lot of new learning, and a lot of assessment in preparation for grade 2. There are also a lot of red days so keep an eye on the notices section and schoolsoft.
In Swedish literacy students are being assessed in God läsutveckling and in English they are doing their final sight word assessment for the year. So far, most students I have assessed have increased their sight word recognition by about 10-15 words since January!
In maths we have begun working on a new unit involving measurement. This week we are working on the goals "understand the need for standard units of measurement."
"create an individual benchmark for 1m"
Captain Blood needs our help! He has been having trouble measuring...
For Home Learningstudents are to look around at home for objects that are shorter than 1m, about 1m, or longer than 1m. You can help them increase understanding by asking them how they knew how long the object was. I have noticed that many students already have a good benchmark for one meter such as, holding arms out or taking a big step. Next week we will discuss the benchmarks the students used at home.
